A Mid-Life Gap Year
Who hasn't thought about throwing in the towel, taking time off and traveling the world? Kids do it. Pensioners do it. Why not middle aged people as well? The kids are out and gone. Your health is good. You've got some money. Why not? What's holding you back?
Responsibilities? "What if the kids need us?" "We have to make money!" "I'm important at work..."
But the reality is, it's later than you think...
Archie and Brie are trapped – comfortable, happy, in love and bored out of their once-inspired minds. There has to be more to life, more to their potential as individuals and as a couple…
It's Archie's idea. His relentless international sales job has banked him over a million air miles with British Air and he convinces Brie to take a year off and use those miles.
"We keep it simple with just two objectives." I paused waiting for her to engage. It was long enough for me to drain my beer and fetch another.
"And what would those be?" She finally said.
"One, that we completely circle the globe."
She nodded, "And number two?"
"That we get great tans."
With that, they're off. First stop, Santorini, Greece where they are expecting to relax and leave decades of responsibilities and monotony on the sandy beaches and in the karaoke bars but instead they find desperate refugees stuck in a bureaucratic nightmare. In an attempt to help shake some of them free, they unwittingly get introduced to an evil they couldn't imagine existing.
What happens next pushes Archie and Brie to their limits. Testing them in ways they never could have imagined when they left their cozy home in England. Their simple quest for rejuvenation, for connection, for embracing the elusive and ephemeral concept of now, morphs into a life and death struggle for survival where their only hope lies in each other...
